Low-Fat Tuna Sandwich

 

It’s summer time and I am feeling compelled to share easy recipes of Sandwiches. This is my 4th this week, along with the other main dishes of course! It makes me smile…

What to say? It’s the season of sunny picnics and parks, and road trips. What’s best to take along than easy and healthy sandwiches and wraps?

So, here comes a lighter and healthier version than the usual commercial take-away Tuna Sandwiches!


THE RECIPE

Low-fat Mayonnaise is used in this recipe with Tuna in water, not oil, and Whole Wheat Brown (American) bread. We can never go wrong with the Dijon Mustard, can we?

And with the pitted black olives, the freshness of French Lettuce, and the subtle zesty flavor of Lemon Juice, you get yourself here a very delicious, fulfilling, and refreshing Sandwich!

A recommendation: Toast the bread slightly before you add the mixture and lettuce.

Low-Fat Tuna Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 4 slices Brown Whole-Grain Bread
  • 4 Red Lettuces

Group 1: The Content

  • 200 gr Tuna in can, preserved in water (not oil!)
  • Black Olive pitted, sliced
  • 2 tbsps Corn Kernels in can
  • 1 tsp Dijon Mustard
  • 2 tbsps Lemon Juice
  • 1 dash Salt
  • 1 dash White Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Low-Fat Mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Wash the Corn kernels under running water to wash away all preservative salt. Leave them for a moment in the sieve.

    Drain the Tuna from all its liquid, and part it in chunks.

  2. In a bowl, mix well together all the ingredients of Group 1.

    Place side by side two loafs/slices of bread on the kitchen counter, and cover each with a lettuce. Divide the mixture equally on the lettuces. Cover with the other slices of bread.

    Consume cold. Enjoy it!

Recommendation

  1. I love this sandwich slightly toasted. You might want to try it for an optimal experience. If you are up to it, toast the bread just enough to bring that soft and crunchy texture, and then place your ingredients on, or in, depending what type of bread you decided to go for.
