Lebanese Fruit Salad with Flower Essences

Where the Essence of Flowers, the Freshness of Fruits

and the Aroma of Cardamom combine Flavors and Health Benefits.

 

I believe that Lebanon is blessed with its Nature.  Our soil and weather team up to provide us with a large variety of fruits and vegetables that are naturally tasty as Mother Nature generously creates them.

That which we call “organics” in North-America, and pay more for them, are the common fruits and vegetables sold in local supermarkets for fair prices. Artificial alteration of these hasn’t entered the country, and hopefully never will.

That makes the consumption of fruits and vegetable in Lebanon a delight. Our Fruit Salad is one of these delightful enjoyments. Each fruit brings in its own fresh taste and aroma. Their combination, with the added flower essences, makes of this super healthy dessert and snack a regular in the Lebanese households.

 

I am delighted to share with you today our recipe. Wherever you are in the world, try to use unaltered fruits so you can enjoy the experience to its best.

I tend to smell the fruits in the supermarkets where I live in Montreal to decide whether I would purchase or not. Call me Lebanese. I can’t help it. A fruit that is not diffusing its natural aroma will not give me its natural flavor.

 


THE RECIPE


The Fruits that compose this recipe are those we use in Lebanon for being local common products. If any is unavailable to you, feel free to substitute it with what is of similar.

Blackberries for instance are fruits are widely available in our mountains during summer. We pick them up and eat them while enjoying a walk in nature. You may use Blueberries instead.

Like with all Fruit Salad, we cut the fruits in bites. The difference with this recipe is in the dressing that makes it so Lebanese, and that is prepared on the side. We mix two types of fresh juices in different quantities, and boost the flavor with Rosewater, Orange-Blossom Water, and Ground Cardamom.

I always go for the natural sweetness the fruits provide. However, should you wish to sweeten it further, you may add Honey. I have added it in the ingredient section as optional.

Lebanese Fruit Salad with Flower Essences

Ingredients

  • 12 Strawberries cut in bites
  • 1 Banana (large) peeled and cut in bites
  • 1 Mango peeled and cut in bites
  • 2 Red Apples peeled and cut in bites
  • 1/4 Melon peeled and cut in bites
  • 1/2 cup Blackberries or Blueberries
  • 2 Peaches peeled and cut in bites
  • 1 Orange peeled and cut in bites
  • 1/2 cup sliced Grapes (seedless)
  • 2 Pineapple rings cut in bites

For the Dressing

  • 1/2 cup Fresh Orange Juice
  • 3 tbsps Fresh Pineapple Juice
  • 2 tbsps Rosewater
  • 2 tbsps Orange-Blossom Water
  • 1 tsp Ground Cardamon
  • 1 tbsp Honey Optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare all the fruits as indicated above, and place them in a large glass bowl.

    In a separate bowl, mix well the ingredients of the dressing. Pour it over the fruits, and toss well but gently to avoid smashing the fruits.

    Cover well (airtight), and chill in the fridge for 5-8 minutes.

    Serve cold and enjoy!

Important Note

  1. You can only store the leftover in the fridge if you haven't used Banana. Otherwise, you need to discard the banana bites. In any case, use an airtight glass container. It can last for up to two days.
