The Versatile Dish of the Chickpeas Balila
A Recipe of Zero Cholesterol and 17 g Fat Only per Portion
The Balila is a super delicious Chickpeas meal of our cuisine which we love at any meal time of the day. Great for breakfast in particular for all the energy boost it grants us for our day, it’s a versatile dish that could do well as side-dish and as salad also.
You may use dry chickpeas, or chickpeas in cans for a quicker preparation, and, in that case, make sure you wash them well under running water.
This recipe is low-fat, containing 17 g only per portion, and has Zero Cholesterol!

Vegetarian Balila Chickpea Breakfast
- 4 cans Chickpeas (medium) well washed under running water, and drained.
- 2 cups Water
- 4 cloves Garlic pounded
- 1/2 cup Fresh Lemon Juice
- 4 tbsps Olive Oil
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Cumin
- Fresh Parsley (chopped) to garnish
In a large casserole, heat the water to boiling point, and pour in the chickpeas. Allow them to cook at high heat until they soften and the liquid thickens.
Transfer the Chickpeas with their liquid into a deep serving plate.
In a bowl, mix the garlic, salt, lemon juice, and olive oil. Pour the dressing on the chickpeas and mix very well.
Sprinkle the Cumin on the top, garnish with Fresh Parsley, and serve hot with Lebanese Pita Bread.
